The Morrison Lecture Series

“We were young and full of energy and terribly optimistic in those days. We were so filled with enthusiasm about the charm and historic importance of the Vieux Carré, and we thought that once we had made others aware of that importance, the Quarter would be safe. Instead, we’ve had to fight over and over again to save the Vieux Carré from one threat after another”

—Mary M. Morrison,
The States-Item, 1978

“The ‘City that Care Forgot’ has more than its share of people who don’t care and who always seem to forget.”
—Jacob H. Morrison,
Historic Preservation Law, l957

The Morrison Lecture Series, held every 2 years since 2002, was named for Jacob and Mary Meek Morrison. Jacob Morrison first wrote the preservation laws still used in New Orleans. His wife, Mary Meek Morrison, was one of New Orleans foremost preservationists. This educational series features speakers representing a broad spectrum of preservation perspectives.
